John Alvin Scherling, 74, of Wichita, KS, passed away April 16, 2021 surrounded by family.

He was born June 13, 1946, in Hutchinson, KS to Alvin and Louise Scherling. John graduated from Emporia State University and was a teacher and musical director at Buhler High School for over 20 years.  He was also a musical accompanist at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and taught music appreciation, various piano courses and piano accompaniment at Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS.  John enjoyed vacationing in Palm Springs, cooking and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his husband, Steve Tuck, of 21 years; son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Lauren, grandson, Grant, granddaughters, Elyse, and Lena, of Cave Creek, AZ; daughter, Amy, son-in-law, Brandon, and granddaughter, Kinley, of Buhler, KS; daughter, Julie, son-in-law, Ryan, and grandsons, Jackson and Austin, of Eagle, CO.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Buhler Municipal West Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Willmar Harder. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, at Elliott Mortuary.
