SOUTH HUTCHINSON - John G. Schmitt, 78, died Feb. 2, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Castleton, the son of John Gerhard and Katie Voth Schmitt. He graduated from Castleton High School in 1946 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1950. A lifetime resident of Reno County, he was a tool designer for Cessna/Eaton, retiring in 1990.
He belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, South Hutchinson Lions Club and Cessna/Eaton Employees Club. His main focus in life was his children and grandchildren. He attended every sporting event and school program possible. He just loved to compliment and offer encouragement to his kids. He was always ready to go fishing within a moments notice. He served in the 99th M.G. Reg. Army as a Staff Sgt., from 1946 to 1948.
On Feb. 25, 1950, he married Thelma N. Dixon in Partridge. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gary D. and wife Cathy S., Wichita; a daughter, Lori J. Wright and husband Douglas L., Inman; two brothers, Maurice, Sterling, and Homer, Seattle, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Kyleen Wright, Candace Wright and Matthew Schmitt.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Janelle Kay Schmitt; two brothers, Chester and Harlan; and a sister, Mildred Taylor.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Alan D. Stambaugh presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lonestar Cemetery.
