John Milton Schneithorst, 90, died July 17, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  He was born January 7, 1931, in Kirtland, OH, to J. Milton and Lucretia G. (Brewster) Schneithorst.

John graduated from high school in 1948, and then joined the United States Navy.  He served from 1948 to 1952, during the Korean War, where he spent time on the USS Furse, USS Turner, and USS Markab.  After the navy, John began his career as a plant engineer for various companies, before retiring from Jackson's Ice Cream Company, after 20 years of service. John enjoyed anything outdoors, from cutting wood to gardening, to growing melons.  He was a handyman and a master of anything to do with industrial arts.  He even designed, constructed, and built machinery.  In addition, John was a Master Gardener and belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers.  He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On July 3, 1952, he married Helen Louise Miklos, in Kansas City, KS.  They recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.

John is survived by: his wife, Helen; sons, Jonathan Steele (Teresa), Ronald Schneithorst, and Craig Schneithorst (Jennifer); 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; a brother, Leo; and a sister, Phyllis Ireland.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 East 12 ^th ,  Hutchinson, with Pastors Quentin Nuttmann and Henry Blickhahn officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
