Obituary

John Wayne Smith, 72, of Hutchinson, died November 22, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 13, 1947, in Hutchinson, to Wesley W. and Alma P. (Browning) Smith.

John graduated from Buhler High School in 1965 and took some special interest classes at Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. John was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for over 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local #795 and was a licensed HAM radio operator. John loved playing the Kansas Lottery.

He is survived by: daughters, Malynda Jarrett (Mack) and Rachel Law, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Allexis Cohen (Joshua), Joshua Lightsey (Mikayla), Johncie Brown, Craig Law (Christine), Dustin Law (Hayden), Ashton Garcia (Nicholas); sisters, Rose Lingle (Al), Anaheim, CA, Alma Arnold (Carl), Colorado Springs, CO, Judy Guffey, Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Roberta Smith, Hutchinson; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Journey@South Hutchinson, 808 S. Poplar, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with family present from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Mooseheart or Reno County Veterans' Memorial, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
