Obituary

John Charles Stauffer, 81, died Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born November 19, 1936, in rural Reno County, the son of Keith and Mary (Gleason) Stauffer. Charles attended Nickerson High School and worked as a farmer. He belonged to Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church and the Kanza Promenade Square Dance Club.

On April 4, 1964, Charles married Freida May Strouse in Hutchinson. She died November 27, 2012.

He is survived by: sister, Mary Fern Woods of Gladstone, MO; brothers, Harold K. Stauffer (Beverly) of Hutchinson, Glenn Stauffer of Rawlings, WY, Ray Dean Stauffer (Phyllis) of Lenexa; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Jeff Goetzinger officiating. Burial will follow in Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.  Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, Paws for Purple Hearts, or Mitchell Chapel, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
