Obituary

John H. "Jack" Stevens, 84, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence.

He was born Aug. 31, 1923, in Hutchinson, the son of Myles and Iva Streeter Stevens. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1941 and the University of Kansas in 1947. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he was the retired co-owner of the former Stevens, Inc. Mechanical Contractors and Jack H. Stevens and Associates Consulting Engineers.

He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 3, 1951, he married Harriet G. Kroeker in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Joseph and wife, Bonnie, Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Ted and wife, Kathy, Lawrence; and two grandsons, Miles and Wyatt Stevens, both of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Harry, Charles and Ken.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding and military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will be closed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas or the Alzheimer's Association, both in care of the funeral home.
