John "John T." Briscoe Jr., 71, died Feb. 17, 2012, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born May 23, 1940, in rural Rice County, to John Thomas and Bethel I. Reynolds Briscoe.
John worked as an engineer for Eaton-Cessna, Centel Electric and Primus Sterilizing. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Legion, Clay County Township Board and was a camp host at Wilson Lake. John served in the Air Force and Air National Guard.
On March 31, 1961, he married Elsie Gustason in Wilson, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: daughter, Theresa Mass and husband David; son, John M. Briscoe and wife Jessica; granddaughter, (due March 25, 2012) Raven Jewel Briscoe; sisters, Ellen Newton, Nancy Maskus and husband Bob, Janice Kelp and husband Don, Margaret Foreman, Mary Ross and husband Tom, Susan Glenn; brother, Paul Briscoe and wife Jill; Jack Russell Terriers, Zuk and Duchess; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th, with the Rev. Chad Trunkhill officiating. Burial will be in Bean Cemetery, Little River. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Reno County Cancer Council, in care of the mortuary.
