John R. Urban, 85, died Jan. 3, 2006, at Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Hutchinson, the son of George P. and Marie E. Crane Urban. He was a 1937 graduate of St. Teresa's High School. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he had been employed with the former Hutchinson Foundry for 25 years, retiring as assistant manager from Baker Manufacturing after 19 years.
He belonged to St. Teresa's Catholic Church, where he served as altar boy, usher and Eucharistic minister; Knight's of Columbus Council No. 612; American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 and VFW Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, all in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On May 17, 1941, he married Charlotte E. Zent in Kansas City, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Richard Allan Urban, Houston; a daughter, Patricia Ann Schur, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, with Father Stuart M. Smeltzer presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the mortuary. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
