John R. "Wink" Winkley, 84, died Sept. 16, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 17, 1926.
John worked for Boeing Aircraft Company for 18 years. He retired as a Reno County Warrant Officer, and then worked for the District Attorney's Office until he was 80. John was a 32nd degree Mason, was a past grandmaster, a Shriner member and was in the scooter patrol.
He married Nina J. "Peggy" Handy on Aug. 11, 1951, in Wichita. She died April 18, 2001. John is survived by: daughters, Marilyn Dickson of South Hutchinson, and Donna Pitzer and husband Jay of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Robbie Dickson and Jennifer Dickson; great-grandchild, Kailyn Dickson; brothers, Robert Winkley and Kenneth Winkley and wife Carol; sister, Joan Wambsganss, all of Hutchinson; pet dog, Muffy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Aileen Dyche; and a brother-in-law, Merton Wambsganss.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Park Place Christian Church, with Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park with Masonic Rites conducted by Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. and A.M. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
