Jose Guadalupe "Lupe" Mendoza, 91, died Feb. 15, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Arcinas, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Francisco and Ramona Arenas Mendoza. He was retired from Winchesters.

He belonged to Apostolic Faith Tabernacle.

On Dec. 15, 1941, he married Maria Torres in San Ignacio, Chihuahua, Mexico. She survives. Other survivors include: a son, Francisco and wife Stella, Las Cruces, N.M.; daughters, Celia Hernandez, Rosa Loya and her husband Abel, both of Portales, N.M., Elena Mendoza, Elva Sanchez and husband Alfonso, all of Hutchinson, Martha Ruiz and husband Henry, Portales, N.M., and Laura Treto and husband Ramiro, Wichita; 37 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Javier Mendoza, daughters, Raquel Pena and Lydia Duran, a son-in-law, Alejandro Hernandez, a grandson, Mario Ruiz and a granddaughter, Chela Duran.

Funeral will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 18, 2009, at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Carl Elder presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Eastside Cemetery, with Pastor Abel Loya presiding.
