ARLINGTON - J. LaVon Bontrager, 53, died Feb. 13, 2012, at his home in Arlington.
He was born Aug. 7, 1958, in Washington, Iowa, to Eldon E. and Mary Ellen Yoder Bontrager.
LaVon was a member of the Arlington Amish Mennonite Church and was a co-pastor at the church. He loved his grandchildren and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He owned Bontrager Custom Cabinets, which had been in the family for over 40 years.
On May 1, 1982, he married Mamie S. Stoltzfus in Honey Brook, Pennsylvania. She survives.
Other survivors include: children, Greg Bontrager and wife Trish, Arlington, Angelene Schmucker and husband Levi, Langdon, Grant Bontrager, Arlington; parents, Eldon and Mary Ellen Bontrager, Arlington; a brother, Myron Bontrager and wife Ilene, Arlington; sisters, Carolyn Bontrager, Arlington, Phyllis Yoder and husband Gareth, Timpson, Texas, Faith Bontrager, El Dorado, Marilyn Korver and husband Dan, Ladysmith, Wis.; and four grandchildren.
LaVon was preceded in death by two sisters, Lynette and Regina Bontrager; and a grandson, Michael Bontrager.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, Arlington. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be made to Arlington Amish Mennonite Church or to Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of the mortuary.
