Joseph A. "Joe" Davenport, 86, died Feb. 2, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Pretty Prairie, the son of Charles Lemuel and Rose Blanche Lintecum Davenport. He graduated in 1937 from Pretty Prairie High School and in 1949 from the Ruppert School of Auctioneering, Decatur, Ind. A lifetime Reno County resident, he was a farmer, stockman and auctioneer for over 40 years and was owner of Davenport Auction.
He belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 A.F. and A.M., 32nd Degree Mason, the Wichita Consistory and Woodcraftsman.
On Aug. 3, 1943, he married Viola Margaret Van Hoozen in Castleton. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Annie Moeder and companion, Clarence Forester, Plevna, and Alice Lewman and husband Wayne, Wichita; four grandchildren, Abby Trimble and husband Randy, Columbia, Mo., Daron Moeder, Pretty Prairie, Ginger Lewman and husband Eric Luby, Emporia, and Toby Moeder, Hutchinson; a great-granddaughter, Brailey Moeder, Hutchinson; a niece, Connie Larlee and husband John, and their son Colin, Hutchinson; a nephew, Bruce Van Hoozen, Brookville, Fla.; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a childhood brother, Murl Davenport.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Alan D. Stambaugh presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lone Star Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge No. 124 A.F. and A.M.
Memorials may be sent to the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church or the Shriner's Children's Mercy Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
