Joseph J. 'Joe' Schrag, 90, of South Hutchinson, died Friday, June 23, 2017. He was born August 1, 1926, at rural Pretty Prairie, the son of Tobias and Frances (Graber) Schrag.
He was a 1945 Pretty Prairie High School graduate and graduate of Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. Joe was a member of First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie and for many years sang in the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus. He had worked for Bankers Investment and then retired from Security Pacific.
On March 2, 1952, he married Mildred Kathryn Stucky at First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie. She died April 5, 1999.
He is survived by: sons, Arnold and Ronald; daughter, Sherri Narron and husband Thomas, all of Hutchinson; sister, Bessie Huxman of Pretty Prairie; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, with one more expected in November.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and siblings, Erwin, Walter, Esther Albright, Ida Schrag, John, Emma Gehring, Elmer 'Ben', and Elaine Krehbiel.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017, at First Mennonite Church, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Road, Pretty Prairie, with Pastor Don Roberts presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Gideons International or Mennnonite Central Committee, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
