Joseph William “Joe” Moore, 83, of Hutchinson, passed away October 1, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born July 31, 1943, in Riverdale, Maryland, to Vera G. Oursler and Joseph W. Burke, and then adopted and raised by H.E. Moore.

Joe grew up mostly in Maryland and Florida and enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 at the age of 17. He served active duty until 1963 and then in the reserves until 1966. The army brought Joe to Fort Riley and he spent the rest of his life in the Abilene and Hutchinson area.

Joe worked for KPL (now Oneok) for 32 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and watching for eagles at Milford Lake. Joe was an animal lover, especially horses and dogs, caring for many as pets over the years. He also enjoyed woodcarving and made Santa Clauses, rocking horses, doll houses, and handheld mirrors for his family. Joe attended First Southern Baptist Church.

He married Dorothy Marie (Jury) Weishaar on December 29, 1989, in Abilene. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Marjorie Norton (Kelley Friend), Debbie Temple (Brad), all of Salina; stepsons, John Shaffett (Tammy) of Abilene, Chris Weishaar of Hutchinson, Ken Weishaar (Sherry) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Toby Weishaar (Julie) of Abilene, Paul Weishaar (Amanda) of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Debbie Moore of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eddie.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2026, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 E 23rd Ave., Hutchinson. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/fsbhutch/videos/

Private family inurnment will take place at later date in Newburn Cemetery, rural Abilene.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Southern Baptist Church or TECH Inc., in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
