Josephine L. "Josie" Hancock, 81, of South Hutchinson, died Oct. 18, 2012, at Mennonite Manor. Josie was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Lipscomb, Texas, the daughter of George and Martha Herber.
She graduated from Darrouzett (Texas) High School in 1948. Josie worked as a dispatcher for Halliburton Oil Co. in Elkhart, and later was owner and operator of Dairy Kreem in Elkhart. She later moved to Chase, where she managed the Our Place restaurant and a convenience store.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marty Dover of Chase, and Georgeann Miller of Hutchinson; four brothers, Ed Herber of Arvada, Colo., Harry Herber of Amarillo, Texas, Lee Herber of Panhandle, Texas, and Gary Herber of Buhler; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ruth Gooch and Ruby Steinle.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Mennonite Manor Chapel in South Hutchinson, with Pastor Luke Helmuth presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family greeting friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
