Obituary

SYLVIA - Josie June Lavielle Peacock, 84, died January 2, 2010, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born June 18, 1925, in Elkhart to L.V. and Florence Hill Lavielle.

She was a 1943 graduate of Sylvia High School and a cadet nurse at St. Elizabeth's Hospital Nurses Training, Hutchinson, graduating in 1946. She had been a registered nurse at Pratt, Hutchinson and Stafford hospitals, retiring from Stafford Hospital. She was also a devoted farmer's wife who cooked many meals, drove trucks and helped move livestock. Some of her hobbies included photography, watercolor painting, flower gardening and being the navigator while flying to Kansas Flying Farmer events. She was a member of Plevna Community Bible Church.

Sixty-two years ago on November 16, 1947, she married Howard Clinton Peacock at Sylvia. He survives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Gayla Sue Peacock Moeckel, Plevna; Howard Laurant, Burrton; granddaughter, Marcella Marie Moeckel Smiley and husband Todd, Sylvia; great-grandson, Cash Dean Smiley; a sister, Vernie Joyce Davidson, St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law, Roger Stroberg, Hutchinson; and four nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon Kay Peacock Stroberg; sisters, Lorene Opal Lavielle Catren, Eva Glennis Lavielle Broker and D'Vera Maxine Laveille Krey; and son-in-law, Jeffrey R. Moeckel.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor David E. Green presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be at Sylvia Cemetery.
