Joyce Marie Anderson

Joyce Marie Stewart Hook Anderson, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Sterling Village in Sterling, Kansas, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Joyce was born on December 30, 1945, to Wayne and E. Marie Stewart. She attended St. Teresa Catholic Grade School, graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1964, and later attended Hutchinson Junior College.

On February 20, 1965, Joyce married Lonnie Hook. Together they raised three children, Tina (Tom), Tami (Kevin), and Lonnie Jr. On April 20, 1990, she married Ernest “Ernie” Anderson.

Family was the center of Joyce’s life. She was a loving mother and a proud grandmother to Zak King; Morgan Smith (Ian); Taylor Toews (Trevor); Cody Lowery (Amanda); Katelyn Sisombath (Jacob); Emily Badgett (Brandon); Kelsey Huskey (Archie); Haylie Hook (Rob); Thomas Broomfield; Luke Stucky (Riley); and Matthew Hook (Taylor). She was also blessed with 20 great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy and happiness.

Joyce will also be lovingly remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends, including Julie Ensz, Shelby Minix, Jenn Treaster, Sara Mauck, and Norma Arnold.

Joyce was a hardworking woman who spent much of her life working and caring for others. She worked on the family dairy farm in Sylvia, drove a school bus for Sylvia Grade School and Fairfield High School, and worked at Prairie Vista Veterinary and J&S Scales. She also spent many years renovating homes and furniture, putting her creativity and talents to good use.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed woodworking, watching birds and squirrels, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, she treasured her family. The time spent surrounded by the people she loved most was what brought her the greatest happiness.

Joyce’s kindness, strength, hardworking spirit, sense of creativity, and love for her family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry her love with them always.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and E. Marie Stewart; her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Anderson; her granddaughter, Kristin Stucky; her brother, Wesley Stewart; and her sister, Opal Harders.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Inman Community Building, 406 E. Center, Inman, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Sterling Village in Joyce’s memory.
