Joyce E. (Detter) Berner, 85, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died November 3, 2012, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born February 13, 1927, in Nickerson, Kansas, the daughter of Rufus J. and Elva M. (Snodgrass) Detter. Joyce graduated from Nickerson High School in 1945. She retired from Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Survivors include: four children, Sharon Rice and husband Mike of Metairie, Louisiana, Larry Cody and wife Annette of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Rick Cody, and Brad Thompson and wife Nancy, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two brothers, Richard Detter and wife Ellen of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Reynold Detter and wife Elaine of Oakdale, California; sister-in-law, Donna Jean Detter of Sterling, Kansas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Leonard Detter.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Josh Holmes presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Penwell Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County, or the American Heart Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
