Junior Lewis, 68, died May 19, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born May 17, 1942, in Hutchinson, to Albert and Lillian M. Magnuson Lewis. A lifetime Castleton resident, he graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1960. He then attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. He was a cowboy and a rancher and a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. In 1996 he received an award for the top two calf-roping horses of the year at the National Finals in Las Vegas. He served as a sergeant in the Kansas Army National Guard.
On Aug. 17, 1971, he married Gaynell Berg in Casper, Wyoming. She survives. Other survivors include: daughters, Mardee Hollenbeck and husband Shawn, Pretty Prairie, and Lisa Willis and husband Aaron, Pretty Prairie; a brother, Steve Lewis and wife Julie, Haven; sisters, Virginia Bish and husband Ken, Branson, Mo., and Sonja Hayes and husband Jim, Hutchinson; and four grandchildren, Brandi, Blair, Hazen and Holden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at Pretty Prairie Junior High School Auditorium, with Pastor Dan Ells officiating. Friends may sign the book Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Junior Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Citizens State Bank in Pretty Prairie.
