Karen Kay Carter's Obituary
NEWTON - Karen Kay Carter, 58, died March 23, 2009, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
She was born May 21, 1950, in Newton, the daughter of Arthur B. and Sarah Carr Krehbiel.
She was a graduate of Newton High School and received her CNA certificate from Hutchinson Community College. A lifetime resident of Newton and Hutchinson, she had worked for over 36 years at Bernard's Restaurant and Catering, she was a self-taught chef, cook and kitchen manager.
Survivors include: a son, Tyrone Carter, Newton; daughters, Denise Carter, Newton, and Lakesha VanBuren, Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Tilyn and Gabriella Vogt. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Paul Hughes presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be sent to the Karen Kay Carter Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary.
