Karen Sue Unruh, 79, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018. She was born June 8, 1938, in Dodge City, the daughter of Andrew Hubert and Nellie Fae (Redfield) Elland.
She was a 1956 graduate of Garden City High School, a 1960 graduate of Emporia State University and was a member of Grace Bible Church, Hutchinson. Karen was a music teacher for 3 years and a homemaker.
Karen was a member of the Hutchinson Sweet Adelines for 54 years and had been a YMCA water aerobics instructor and leader for over 30 years.
On August 7, 1960, she married Donald Lee Unruh in Garden City. He survives. Also surviving are: their sons, Michael, Gary and wife Stacie, all of Overland Park, and Greg of Kansas City; brother, James Elland and wife Beth of Denver, Colorado; nine grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Grace Bible Church, 1221 East 33rd Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Chuck Lambert presiding. Private family inurnment will be in Bucklin Cemetery at a later date. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson, with family greeting from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
