Obituary

Katherine York Kirkley, 76, died surrounded by family members on April 3, 2013, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 3, 1936, in Fredonia, Kan., to Eaton and Octavia York.

Katherine married her high school sweetheart, Curtis Kirkley on Sept. 2, 1955, in Claremore, Okla.

After all of their five children were in school, she finished her nurses training in 1972 and worked in the nursing field for approximately 15 years. She was involved in her church, Campers on Mission, Disaster Relief and various other service projects.

Katherine is survived by: her husband, Curtis; children, Carol of Salida, Colo., Terri and John Martin of Marshfield, Wis., Kenneth Kirkley and Lynn Detrick of Nickerson, Martha and Bryan Dawson of Jackson, Tenn., Christi and Kyle Hopkins of McPherson; siblings, Paulyne Vanzant, Connie Wright, both of Claremore, Okla., Marvin York of Norman, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Hanes; and brother, George York Jr.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 E. 23rd, with Pastor Roy Jaye officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens, Claremore, Okla. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Southern Baptist Church Canopy Fund or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
