Katheryne W. Hamilton, 97, died Feb. 26, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 23, 1908, in Fort Morgan, Colo., the daughter of Thomas S. and Della Baylor Work. She was a 1925 graduate of Fort Morgan High School and a 1929 graduate of Sterling College. She taught school in Rolla from 1929 to 1931, in Medicine Lodge and Burrton from 1960 to 1973, served as Director of Christian Education at the First Presbyterian Church, and was a substitute teacher with USD No. 308.
She belonged to First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Church Women United, a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women Association, a past president of American Association of University Women, a past president of Hutchinson Area Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Hutchinson Motherís Club, a member of the Hutchinson Symphony Guild, and past Moderator of the Presbytery of Southern Kansas. She received the Distinguished Service Award from Sterling College in 1982.
On Aug. 4, 1931, she married B. Max Hamilton in Fort Morgan, Colo. He died Nov. 8, 1970.
Survivors include: three sons, Rayner Max Hamilton, Greenwich, Conn., Alan Dale Hamilton, Sonora, Calif., and Robert Rex Hamilton, Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter, Kathleen Black, Estes Park, Colo.; a foster son, Arnold Lee, Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Josiah Work; and two sisters, Sarah Work Lindsay and Elizabeth Jane Work.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Tim Soule, Helen Moore Spath and William T. Soule presiding. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parlor. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation will take place. Private family committal services will be held prior to the memorial service.
