Obituary

MIAMI, Fla. – Kathryn N. Becker, 50, passed away peacefully on Nov. 23, 2015, in Miami, Fla. She was born in Arizona, but was a Kansas native, the daughter of Richard G. and Johannah (Johnson) Becker.

Kathryn attended Hutchinson High School and Stephens College, Columbia, Mo. She had a passion for travel and lived abroad and throughout the U.S., eventually settling in Miami, Florida. She was a competitive sailor and avid tennis player. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 at the young age of 32. Kathryn was an 18-year breast cancer survivor. Kathryn volunteered her time to the South Florida Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and served as a mentor to other women facing the disease. She was an active volunteer in the community and served on the board of directors for the Branches, Inc. Foundation, where a scholarship was established in her name.

Kathryn worked as the Sr. Director of Marketing at ADP TotalSource for over 20 years, where she was highly regarded. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables and was an integral part of the church leadership, serving as chair of church council and outreach opportunities. Kathryn faced life's challenges with dignity and grace and was an inspiration to all that knew her. She was a loving daughter, sister and friend. By example, she taught us to live life to the fullest.

She is survived by: her loving sister, Janet Bland and brother, Mark Becker and wife Penny. Kathryn adored her nephews, Gus, Sam and Ruger Bland, and Michael and Dylan Becker. She was preceded in death by: her parents.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at First Congregational Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Inurnment will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn's memory to the First Congregational Church or Dillon Nature Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
