Obituary

HUTCHINSON - Kathryn W. "Katie" Sherlock, the last member of a longtime Hutchinson pharmacy family, died July 13, 2010, at the age of 101.

Katie had been a resident of Good Samaritan Center since 2004, when she moved back from Arizona.

She was born April 5, 1909, in Hutchinson to Fred and Jessie Groty Weesner.

On June 4, 1948, she married Francis J. Sherlock in National City Christian Church, Washington, D.C. He died Oct. 7, 2000.

Katie was a secretary for local attorney A. Lewis Oswald before joining the military at the beginning of World War II. She was a Captain who served overseas during and after the war in the Philippines and New Guinea. For the remainder of her husband's career, they served in the State Department on Embassy duty in Afghanistan, Greece, Panama, Chile, Guatemala and Laos. Katie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and several other Veterans and Women's Veterans organizations. She also belonged to the Foreign Service Retirees of Arizona.

Survivors include: three nephews, Ken Willard, Scottsdale, Ariz., John Weesner, Sugarland, Texas, and Charles Willard, Louisville, Ky.; niece, Barbara Kobylinski, Buffalo, N.Y. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur "Bud" and Kenneth "Ken" Weesner, and a sister, Christine Willard.

Burial has taken place in Fairlawn Burial Park. Private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
