Katie Helmuth, 87, of South Hutchinson, died Dec. 12, 2012, at Mennonite Friendship Communities.
Katie was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Samuel and Delila Beiler Nisly.
She attended East Eureka School in rural Reno County. She and her husband founded the Dutch Kitchen Restaurant and they later started Helmuth Country Bakery. Katie was a founding member of the Plainview Mennonite Church and was a long-time member of the Gideon's Auxiliary.
Katie married Eli J. Helmuth on Aug. 5, 1948, in Hutchinson. He died Dec. 27, 2011.
Survivors include: sons, Larry Helmuth and wife Donna of Weems, Va., and Luke Helmuth and wife Victoria of Hutchinson; daughters, Karen Morgan and husband Edward of Mountain View, Ark., and Nadine Patton and husband Gary of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Melvin Nisly and wife Fannie, Menno Nisly, and John S. Nisly and wife Sylvia; a sister, Emma Stutzman and husband Ervin; a sister-in-law, Ellen Nisly, all of Hutchinson; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jonas Nisly; and three sisters, Amanda Yoder, Rebecca Bontrager, and Mary Nisly.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Plainview Mennonite Church, with Pastors Terry Yoder, Luke Helmuth, and Orville Miller presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A register book may be signed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Plainview Mennonite Church.
