Obituary

Katrina J. "Kitty" Swartz Adams Douthit, 84, died June 10, 2016, at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson. On Nov. 23, 1931, Katrina was born to Joseph B. and Ethelyn (Beswick) Swartz in Strawn.

Katrina attended grade school in Elkhart, then graduated from Topeka High School where she excelled on the THS debate team. Katrina received a degree in journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism.

Her first job after graduation from the University of Kansas was with the Salina Journal, where she met Franklin "Poody" Alexander Adams Jr. They were married in Topeka in January 1954. She and Frank had three daughters, Mary, Betsy, and Catherine.

After Frank's death in May of 1971, Katrina took a teaching position at Buhler High School. Later Kitty moved to Emporia where she received a Masters in Library Science from ESU. After working for the Office of Information and Public Events for Wichita State University, she returned to Emporia and married Dr. Richard Pfaff Douthit in June, 1978.

Katrina served as the librarian at the Newman School of Nursing and was a dedicated member of the Daughters of the King chapter at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.

After Richard's death, she returned to Hutchinson to be closer to her grandchildren.

Survivors include: daughters, Mary Adams Treaster (Mark), Elizabeth Adams Mansel (Brad), Catherine Adams Plotkin (Brian); six grandchildren, Matthew Treaster (Jacque), Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Andrew Treaster, Washington, DC, Abigail Mansel, Alexandria, Va., Molly Mansel, Emporia, Ben Plotkin, Wichita, Sarah Plotkin, Rolla, Mo.; brother, Charles Swartz (Sara). She was preceded in death by: her parents; infant sister, Alice; and husbands, Franklin A. Adams Jr. and Richard Douthit.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with a 3 p.m. inurnment in Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church Columbarium, Emporia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County or Grace Episcopal Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
