Obituary

Keith Showalter, 96, died Oct. 9, 2015, at his home in South Hutchinson. He was born Dec. 23, 1918, in Darlow, to Russell and Gertrude (Finfrock) Showalter, one of eight children.

Keith spent most of his life farming in Castleton and operating his own business, the Showalter Garage, for over 40 years. He was still active renovating some of his old machinery in his spare time. Keith was the Mayor of South Hutchinson for 6 years and CEO of government housing for 50 years. On March 22, 1941, he married Sylvia Nadine McCaffery in Little Rock, Ark., while stationed in the Army. She died Jan. 17, 1997.

Survivors include: daughters, Nancy Colburn and husband Wayne of Hutchinson, Niki Miles and husband Harley of Wichita; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters, Neva Crotts of South Hutchinson, Letha Bowman of California; and a brother, Arden Showalter of California. He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Dale, Leo, and Wayne; sister, Madena; and a companion, Rosalie Nunemaker.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Joyce Beam presiding. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with the family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
