Obituary

Kelly J. Comer, 76, died June 22, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born December 25, 1949, in Council Bluffs, IA, to Lowell John and Dorothy Jean (Beimrohr) Comer.

Kelly graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, IA. He attended the University of Wyoming, Hutchinson Community College, and Pittsburg State University where he was a member of all their football teams. Kelly received his bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University. He worked for Cessna/Eaton before beginning his 30-year career at Femco, Inc., in McPherson, retiring as their general manager. Kelly loved sports, especially football. He officiated high school football games for 35 years. Kelly’s love and passion for sports was passed down to his sons and grandsons. He never missed an opportunity to support them in their sporting and school endeavors.

On December 19, 1971, Kelly married Debora Ann “Debbie” Simon, in Wichita.

Kelly is survived by: his wife of almost 55 years, Debbie of Hutchinson; sons, T.J. Comer of Hutchinson, Christopher Comer of Gladstone, MO, and Jeffrey Comer (Katherine) of Buhler; grandsons, Andrew J. “A.J.” Comer, Kellen Comer, and Jensen Comer; brother, Thomas Comer (Rita) of Chichester, NH; sister-in-law, Breva Winderlin (Bill) of Tuttle, OK; and brother-in-law, Jay Simon of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 9:00 to 5:00 Monday and 9:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House or Retired Officials and Coaches Association (ROCA). To benefit ROCA, checks must be made out to Michael Shackelford, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
