Obituary

Kenneth H. Schmidt, 78, of South Hutchinson, Kan. died Jan. 25, 2011, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.

He was born March 25, 1932, in Greensburg, Kan., the son of Harvey Fred and Beatrice Marguerite Smith Schmidt.
He was a 1950 graduate of Greensburg High School, and a graduate of Hesston College, Hesston, and Bethel College, Newton. He resided in Greensburg, Kan., Rocky Ford, Colo., and Middlebury, Ind., before moving to an apartment at Mennonite Manor in 2008. He was a farmer and hospital and nursing home administrator.

On Aug. 17, 1955, he married Phyllis Eileen Egli in Manson, Iowa. She died Jan. 13, 2010.

Survivors include: a son, Arlin and wife Stephanie of Baskings Ridge, NJ; three daughters, Rita Martin and husband Bryan of Kansas City, Mo., Nancy Magliery and husband Mark of Denver, Colo., and Susan Funk and husband Clif of Hutchinson, Kan.; a sister, Judi Selzer of Sharon Springs, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Yoder Cemetery, Yoder, Kan., with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at South Hutchinson Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson, Kan., with Pastors Howard Wagler and Jeff Blackburn presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to Mennonite Manor or Mennonite Central Committee in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
