Kenneth E. Smith, 76, died July 3, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1939, in Ulysses, the son of Lloyd H. and Mabel (Keen) Smith.
Ken graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958 and attended Salt City Business College. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967. Ken married Judy McElyea on Aug. 1, 1970, in Hutchinson. He worked for the Frito Lay Company and USD #308 Hutchinson Public Schools and was a former member of the Hutchinson Jaycees. He is survived by: his wife, Judy; daughters, Kelly Sprague and husband Ricky of Hutchinson, Kendra Robins of Wichita; son, Kevin Smith of Lawrence; five grandchildren, Brandon Sprague and wife Jennifer, Aaron Sprague and wife Paige, Cameron Sprague, Ashlee Flora and husband Josh, Tyler Robins and wife Liz; two great-grandsons, Brayden and Rylan Robins. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Ann Smith.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson.Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Elliott Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
