Laberda J. Crowell passed away at Promise Regional Medical Center on December 8, 2011.
She was born on February 4, 1928, in Inman, Kansas to Heinie and Sarah Friesen-Friesen. An only child, affectionately called 'Babe' she grew up on a farm east of Inman on Arrowhead Road.
She graduated from Inman High School in 1946. After graduation she moved to Hutchinson and started the next chapter of her life. She met Roy 'Blackie' Crowell, a sailor in the U.S. Navy from Detroit, Michigan and they were destined to be together for 54 years until Roy's death on May 8, 2002. Together Roy and Laberda had four daughters. Survivors include: daughters, Shirley Lebien, and Connie Southard of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, Leslie Lebien, Jerome Lane, Shelly Lane, Travis Southard, Thomas Southard, Terri Southard, Joey Cross, and Linda Cross; 17 great-grandchildren; a very special neighbor and dear friend, Pam Cook; and her beloved white cat "Kitty."
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and daughters, Patty Fields, and Linda Jo Cross, son-in-laws, Delmar Southard, and Larry Cross.
Graveside service will be Monday December 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. in North Inman Cemetery, Inman, Ks, with Pastor Andy Addis presiding. Visitaion will be Saturday 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 3 to 5 p.m. with the family present and Monday 9 a.m. to noon.
