Larry Hendershot, 67, longtime Hereford resident and former Hutchinson born resident, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born April 19, 1948, in Hutchinson, the son of Bill and Winnie (Brock) Hendershot.
In 1966, he graduated from Partridge Rural High School, Partridge, in 1970 from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in Biology and in 1977 with a master's degree in Grain Science.
He married Marlene Ann (Schultes) Hendershot Nov. 6, 1976, in Manhattan, Kan. They moved to Hereford, Texas in 1981. Having been raised on the family farm in Kansas, Larry's passion for learning was in Research and Development in the Agriculture industry.
Larry's life consisted of many memorable events but the three that he received his identity from were when he received Jesus as his Lord and friend in 1976 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the birth of his four children and the many blessings they brought to him, and the birth of his grandson Ayden who was his delight and joy. Larry was a member of the New Life Restoration Center in Hereford and also a former member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists. An avid reader and a lover of various genres of music, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, rafting and photography.
Survivors to cherish his memories are: his wife, Marlene of the home in Hereford; his children, Matthew Hendershot of New Port News, Va., Christopher Hendershot and wife Danielle of Boise, Idaho, Katherine Hendershot of Amarillo, Texas, and Marshall Hendershot of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandson, Ayden Hendershot of Amarillo; his mother, Winnie Hendershot of Hutchinson; a sister, Sharon Kinney and husband Don of Wichita; a niece, Becky Vanlandingham and husband Troy of Wichita; and a nephew, Brian Epperson and wife Gaby of Kennewick, Wash. Larry was preceded in death by: his father, Wilbur "Bill" Hendershot; in-laws, Merlin and Doris Schultes; a sister-in-law, Cheryl (Schultes) Goff; and a brother-in-law, Howard Goff.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, in Elliott Mortuary and Cremation Chapel, 1219 Main St., Hutchinson, with Reverend Stan Hendershot (cousin) officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Darlow, under the entrusted direction of Elliott Mortuary and Cremation, Hutchinson. Hereford, Texas, services are provided by Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E. Sixth St., Hereford, Texas 79045.
