Larry Hughs, 78, of Hutchinson, died July 2, 2017, in Needles, CA. He was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Ashland, KS, the son of Jesse Ray & Ruth Orpha (Haller) Hughs. Larry was a 1956 graduate of Bucklin High School and attended Fort Wayne Bible College, Fort Wayne, IN.

On Aug. 23, 1958, he married Violet R. 'Bertie' Hammar in Bucklin, KS. Bertie died Jan. 18, 2010. On Oct. 10, 2015, he married Shirley Brucks in Hutchinson. She survives.

Larry worked for Cessna/Eaton Corp. for 42 years, retiring in 2001.

He is survived by: his wife, Shirley; children, Laralita J. Stewart and husband Jonathan of Arlington, TX, Ben and wife Kathy of Ferndale, WA, Sheri Brucks and Randal Baugh of Hutchinson, George and Susan Brucks of Riverside, CA; brothers, Roger of Alabama, Herb of Indiana; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by: wife, Bertie; children, Jeffrey Joe Hughs, Dennis Brucks, Ronnie Brucks, David Brucks; brother, Ron Hughs; and sister, Carol Byer.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at 414 Crescent Blvd., Hutchinson. Memorial service will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Westside Baptist Church, 400 W. 12th, Hutchinson. Officiating will be Pastors Jonathan Stewart, Gerald Berry and Montie McFerrin. The family will greet friends prior to the service at the church. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept, 2, 2017, at the Bucklin, KS Cemetery, officiated by Pastors Roger and Herb Hughs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Reins of Hope, Hutchinson, or Victory Baptist Press (for Bibles), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501.
