Wichita - Mr. Larry Leroy Thomas, 78, of Wichita, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born on April 10, 1937, in Henry County, Iowa, he was the son of Leroy and Letha Vandermark Thomas.
On Nov. 28, 1959, he married Rosa Ellen Wiles in New London, Iowa. They moved to Hutchinson in 1965, and lived there until moving to Wichita in 1988.
Mr. Thomas served in the United States Army. After he came home, he worked at Spahn and Rose Lumber Company in New London, Iowa. He then became a road salesman before settling down as a salesman and manager at Adams & Parker Furniture in Hutchinson and the La-Z-Boy Showcase Shoppe in Wichita. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports, and watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard.
Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Rosa E. Thomas of Wichita; one son, Bradley (Andi) Thomas of El Dorado; two daughters, Brenda Hanes of Lyons, and Sheryl (Jim) Wells of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a son-in-law, Ken Waggener; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Adam) Walmsley of Wichita, Michael (Grace Jordan) McLaughlin of Paris, Texas, Eric (April) McLaughlin of Reno, Texas, Emily Hanes of Hutchinson, Edward Hanes of Sterling, and Charles Thomas of El Dorado; four step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Verla (Bill) Canfield of Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn Walker of Muscatine, Iowa, and Mary Alice McClaskey of Keokuk, Ill.; two brothers, David Surrell (Marge) Thomas of New London, Iowa, and Marvin (Margaret Ann) Thomas of Letts, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Donald, John and Charles Thomas; one sister, Genevive Connor; and his oldest daughter, Julia Thomas Waggener.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and the family will be present to receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society's "Climb to Conquer Cancer" in Flagstaff, Ariz., or the Central and Western Kansas Alzheimer's Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
