Larry Gene Walsten, 59, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1955, in Hutchinson, the son of Robert P. and Bernadine A. Briggs Walsten.

Larry was a special son and brother born with Down Syndrome. He spent his early life at Bethpage Mission, now called Mosiac, in Axtell and Holdrege, Neb., and later moved to Ellsworth to be closer to his family. Larry was always friendly and looking for friends to be with. He is survived by: his brothers, Robert (Kathy) of Manhattan, Kan., and Richard and twin Gary of Haven; and two nieces and their families. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at Andover Lutheran Church, Windom, followed by his funeral at 2 p.m. with Pastor Thomas R. Hallowell presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mosaic, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS 67501.
