Obituary

Larry R. Woods, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born March 16, 1943, in Hutchinson, the son of George and Edith (Stuckey) Woods.

Larry was a 1961 graduate of Nickerson Rural High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. He was a farmer/stockman in the Nickerson area. During the winters, Larry worked as a car and truck salesman for several local dealerships. He was also a servant of the Lord, serving as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school and Bible school teacher for the churches he attended. Larry was treasurer for 35 years for Grant Township and served on the Nickerson Farmers Coop board. He enjoyed racing stock cars with his brother, Rodger, at Mohawk Speedway.

On June 30, 1962, he married Janet Sue Rampenthal in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: four daughters and their spouses, Janett Harris (Tim) of Texas, Natalie Goertzen (Lyle) of Buhler, Camille Harding (David) of Wichita, and Juenelle Varvel (Chris) of Burlington; brother, Rodger (Irene) of Loveland, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Mary Fern Woods of Oklahoma, Joyce Woods of Texas; brother-in-law, Bob Sanchez of Utah; six grandchildren, Keith and Jake Reffner, Hank Goertzen, Dakota and Mackenzie Harding, Addison Varvel; Tim's children, Clint (Ashleigh) Harris, Jamie Harris; Tim's grandson, Carter Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Donald and Lester; and sisters, Irene (Harold) Little, and Beverly Sanchez.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Bill Dexheimer and Pastor Paul Thurston presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
