BRUNSWICK, Maine – Laura Carolyn Bauer Hopkins, 90, died March 20, 2016, at Sunnybrook Village, Brunswick, Maine. She was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Stewartsville, Mo., the daughter of Walter Marion and Laura (Watson) Bauer. Carol was a 1943 graduate of Stewartsville High School, attended Baker University and a 1946 graduate of the University of Missouri. She was a kindergarten teacher for six years in Kansas City, Mo. Carol married James Robert Hopkins on Aug. 7, 1948, in St. Joseph, Mo. Dr. Hopkins died May 7, 2004.
Carol was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, the Holy Cross Altar Society, Hutchinson Art Association, and volunteered at the Christian Soup Ministry. She loved philanthropy, art history, quilts, gardening, reading, travel, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
She is survived by: sons, Robert Hopkins and wife Glenda of Salina, David Hopkins and wife Donna Barrere of Baton Rouge, La., Andrew Hopkins of Sante Fe, NM; daughters, Mary H. Moore and husband Tom of Harpswell, Maine, Ann O'Halloran of Ribera, NM, Kathleen H. Whalen of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister, Kay Robins of Carrolton, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter-in-law, Teri Meiners Hopkins.
Parish Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at Elliott Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Church of the Holy Cross, 25th and Plum, Hutchinson, with Father Roger S. Lumbre officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
