Laurel Esther Steele, 89, died Aug. 24, 2006, at Wesley Towers Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Nickerson, the daughter of John and Frances Stuart Nininger. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1936. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she had lived in Salina from 1957 to 1980. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to Community Church of the Brethren and was a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader while in Salina.
On March 9, 1940, she married Bobbie A. Steele, d.v.m., in Newton. He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Sue Sorensen, Denver, and Barbara Annette McVey, Enid, Okla.; a brother, Lawrence Nininger, Hutchinson; a sister, Grace Kincaid, Hutchinson; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Elwyn Bradley Steele; a grandson; a brother, Ed Nininger; and a sister, Nellie Moorman.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, Hutchinson.
