Obituary

Laurence Donald Moyer, 83, died Jan. 12, 2008, at Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson, KS.

He was born November 30, 1924, in Anthony, KS the son of Ernest and Lockie Fitts Moyer.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father of Argonia, Ks., a brother, Jay Moyer of Argonia, KS., and a sister, Virginia McDaniel of Maize, KS.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years Laveda Moyer, Partridge, KS and five sons, Donald Moyer, Fort Calhoun, NE, Marc Moyer, Partridge, KS, Carl Kent Moyer, Sanford, FL, Denis Moyer, Hutchinson, KS, Dale Moyer, Blue Springs, MO; a sister Judith Stark, Newton, KS; four granddaughters, Kim McKenzie, April Moyer, Amber Driskell, Laura Moyer; two grandsons, Chad Moyer and Todd Moyer; eight great-grandchildren, Amanda Moyer, Melissa House, Ian McKenzie, Elizabeth McKenzie, Ethan Moyer, Caden Moyer, Addison Moyer, Bailey Moyer, 12 niece and nephews.

Laurence attended both grade and high school at Argonia, KS graduating with the class of 1943. He married classmate Laveda Stephens June 11, 1944. Working in agriculture they moved to Wichita, KS and began his career at Cessna Aircraft in 1949. In 1952, he was transferred to Hutchinson, KS to the Cessna Hydraulic Division. He served in many management positions and was named Manufacturing Project Engineer over cylinders in 1976. He invented the wire lock cylinder which Cessna sold world wide and retired early from Cessna in 1982.

In 1957, the family moved to Partridge from Hutchinson where he expanded his farming operations through the present day in Reno County. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors, tools, and things related to farming doing the mechanical work himself.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson with Pastor Paul Nisly presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Burial will be at 3:30, Saturday in Argonia, KS, cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army, in care of the mortuary.
