Obituary

LaVerna 'Lee' Banks, 88, of Hutchinson, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born December 5, 1928, in Canton, the daughter of Sol and Mary (Goertz) Janzen.

Lee moved from Canton in 1945 and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1946. She worked at Producers Dairy Foods as the office manager for 26 years, and then retired from Jackson Ice Cream after 15 years of service. Lee was a member of Women of the Moose Hutchinson Chapter #1371, and Hutchinson Women's Bowling Association since 1959. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, games with friends and weekends of camping and water skiing. Lee loved to crochet and knit, and share what she made with her family and friends.

On July 6, 1963, she married Vertis L. Banks in Hutchinson. He died December 4, 1998.

Survivors include: daughter, Sharon Gumpenberger and husband, John of Hutchinson; son, Jimmie L. Banks of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lee was preceded in death by: her parents; infant daughter, Jimalyne Meyer; grandson, Andrew Banks; son, Robert Banks; and companion of 16 years, Wayne Aeschliman.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, Hutchinson, with Pastor Paul Thurston officiating. Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Moose Lodge #982, 1401 E. 1st, with Pastor Paul Thurston officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the Moose Lodge on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
