LaVeta Mae Jones, 82, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 10, 1935, in Ellinwood, to Paul and Gertrude (DeWerff) Scheufler.
LaVeta graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1953 and attended Friends University for one year. She then received her degree in nursing from Grace Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for many years in the Sterling and Kingman hospitals, Donley Clinic in Kingman, Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson, and retired from Golden Plains in Hutchinson. LaVeta was also a homemaker and farm wife, loving to participate in harvest-time.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, and was very active in church Bible studies, Sunday School classes, mission-oriented ministries, and American Baptist Women. LaVeta was also very involved in Young-at-Heart Ministries and Christian Soup Ministry, both in Hutchinson.
In 1957, she married Glen E. Jones in Ellinwood. He died January 3, 1975.
LaVeta is survived by: daughters, Sonja Jones/Redd (Karl Redd) of Ash Flat, AR, Danell Branscom (Rick) of Hutchinson; son, Rodney Jones (Karen) of Waukomis, OK; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Madden (Bill) of Ellinwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Deann Meis.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 800 N. Main, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Lerado Cemetery. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
