LaWanda Carrol Lower, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013. She was born in Hutchinson on Nov. 25, 1937, the daughter of Howard and Minnie Nixon Krauter.
She was a telegrapher for Western Union and also did a lot of volunteer work for Helping Hands and The Boy Scouts Last Frontier Council in Oklahoma. She volunteered for the Hutchinson Public Library, Hospice of Reno County, and RSVP.
On June 3, 1956, she married George W. Lower in Kingman. He died Nov. 4, 2005. She is survived by sons, Greg Lower of Independence, Kan., and Roger Lower, of Hutchinson; a brother, Kenneth Krauter (Marilyn) of Ellinwood, Kan; a sister, Doris Gaeddert (Gerald) of Abbyville, Kan.; and two granddaughters, Carolyn and Melanie Lower of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Larry Lower.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Abbyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time on Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
