Lawrence L. "Larry" Nichols, 81, died Feb. 28, 2012, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Dykusburg, Ky., the son of Jesse Allen and Laura Emma (Bonds) Nichols.
He served as a corporal with the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War, was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Teamsters Local #795. Larry worked 32 years for Dillon's Warehouse, retiring in 1991.
On Jan. 18, 1957, he married Karen Elizabeth Cannon in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: three children, Douglas D. Nichols, Debra Kitts and husband Craig, and Lori Dimmitt and husband Robert, all of Hutchinson; two brothers, Jesse Nichols and wife Wanda of Hutchinson, Ollie Nichols and wife Phyllis of Providence, Ky.; a sister, Dean Hammonds of Ledbetter, Ky.; four grandchildren, Tyler Kitts, Michelle Updegrove and husband Jeff, Zane Dimmitt and Kyli Dimmitt. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard Nichols.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Eldon Smith officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with military honors conducted by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
