Obituary

Lawrence F. "Larry" Bishop Jr., 87, died on June 25, 2013, at Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson. He was born May 9, 1926, in Hutchinson to Lawrence F. and Neoma E. Kootz Bishop.

He served in the Army during World War II, stationed at Ft. Riley, Kan.

On July 14, 1943, he married Doris May Hummel in Marion, Kan. She died Feb. 4, 1996. Lawrence then married Dorothy Smith on Aug. 24, 1996, in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Larry A. (Betty) Bishop of Arlington; daughter, Gina L. (Gary) Harts of Independence, Mo.; grandsons, Jeffery A. Bishop of Hutchinson and Christopher Harts of Independence, Mo.; special nephew, Richard Hummel of Wichita, Kan.; seven stepsons and daughters, with numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles "Chuck" Bishop; and son, Michael "Mike" E. Bishop.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Craig Dilbeck presiding. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Kansas Honor Flight, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
