Obituary

Lawrence Estel "Larry" Nininger, died March 4, 2007, at Wesley Towers, in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was born December 8, 1916, in rural Nickerson, son of John and Francis Stuart Nininger. He attended Reno County Grade School, Liberty Jr. High, and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1935, Flight School in Hutchinson, Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson, and DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois. Oct. 14, 1939, he married his high school sweetheart, Marlyne Neel, and moved to Tulsa, Okla. He was later employed by Oriental Refinery in Denver, Colo., Chicago Bridge and Iron in Chicago, Ill., served in World War II, worked with Waddell and Reed, Elster Leasing, Co., was a farmer and cattleman for 36 years in northwest Reno County, and retired to Buena Vista, Colo. in 1985.

He was a charter member of the Nickerson Lion's Club, a member of Kansas Farm Bureau, a member of Park Place Christian Church, in Hutchinson, Valley Fellowship Church in Buena Vista Colo., Buena Vista Tree Board, Optimists and Harmonizer's Barbershop singers. They had two children, Judith Diane (Judy) and Richard Jerome (Jerry).

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Laurel Steele, a sister Nellie Moorman; a brother, Edgar Nininger; and a grandson, Todd Edmands. Survivors include his wife, Marlyne Nininger; a sister, Grace Kincaid, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson; a daughter, Judy and her husband, Clay Edmands, Salina; a son, Jerry and his wife, Debbie of Glenwood, N.M., and six grandchildren, Scott Edmands and his wife, Debra Junnila of East Hampton, Mass., Elise and her husband, Tom Lowry of Atlanta, Ga., Jesse and wife, Rebecca Nininger of Hutchinson, Clifford Nininger of Emmaus Bible College, Dubuque, Iowa, Anna Nininger, Hutchinson Jr. College, and Katy Nininger of Glenwood, N.M. There are two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Lowry of Atlanta, Ga.

Visitation will be at Elliott Mortuary, Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A private family burial service in Memorial Park Cemetery will preceded the 11 a.m., Thursday, Memorial Service at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 North Adams, Hutchinson.
