Layna Mae Kelly Andrews ceased her suffering and joined her husband of nearly 65 years, Jack, on Friday, August 28, 2009, at Good Samaritan Village in Hutchinson.
She was born at Newton, KS, November 30, 1922, to James Frank and Mossella Gladys Vassar Kelly.
She attended school in Hutchinson. On March 24, 1941, she married Jack H. Andrews in McPherson, KS. She worked at Self-Service Drug and Kwik Shop. She and her family were active in the Hutchinson Saddle Club and the Double Trouble Club for parents of twins. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene. During her years as a resident at Good Samaritan, she was known as a great fan of the KU Jayhawks, often organizing get-togethers to cheer them on. She was ecstatic during the 2007 and 2008 football and basketball seasons when they saw such great success. All family and friends who would care to are invited to wear the team colors on Monday in her memory. She shared her father's love for baseball, rarely missing a Royals game on TV. At Good Samaritan she was constantly greeting new residents, providing music and videos for the entertainment of the other residents, and looking out for the welfare of others. People who visited her there often commented that they came away feeling better themselves for having been in her company.
She is survived by: four daughters, Carol Jean Partridge and husband, Jim, and Jacqulyn Sue Ashcraft and husband, Steve, all of Hutchinson, Jenise Kay Ankerholz and husband, Kenny, of Inman, and Denise Fay Kellogg and husband, Steve, of Florissant, Colo. Her pride and never-ending joy were her eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
