Leita A. Ewing, 91, died April 30, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Penalosa, the daughter of Wesley and Ethel Hartley Jones.
She graduated from Penalosa High School in 1934 and received her teaching certificate in 1936 from Fort Hays State Teacher's College. For six years she taught 1st thru 8th grades in a one-room schoolhouse in both Reno and Kingman Counties. She was an Avon representative for over 30 years.
A Hutchinson resident since 1950 she was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Ark Valley Good Sams Camping Club. She enjoyed playing games particularly 10-point pitch, bingo and dominoes. She loved bowling and was an avid fan of Hutchinson Blue Dragon Basketball and attended faithfully for 57 years.
On May 5th, 1940, she married Kenneth T. Ewing in Penalosa. He survives.
Other survivors include: son, Kent Ewing and wife Marti, Hutchinson; daughters, Trudy Crupper and husband Phill, Sugar Land, Texas, and Becky Cole, Lakewood, Colo.; sister, Maxine Wooldridge and husband Edward of Ulysses; four grandchildren, Lisa Ewing, Wichita, Jeff Crupper and wife Monica, Clearwater, Fla., Angie Leising and husband Mike of Crosby, Texas, and Matt Ewing and wife Jennifer of Bristol, Ind.; four great-grandchildren, Deven Leising, Tyler, Thomas and Ellie Ewing.
She was preceded in death by brother, Donald Jones, sister, Juanita Carmichael and an infant sister.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel with the Reverend Tim Soule presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with family to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.
