Lela Daisy Reed, 97, died May 5, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born Jan. 19, 1911, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Samuel Thomas Sherman and Louisa May Small Wise. She graduated from Great Bend High School in the class of 1929. A Hutchinson resident for many years, she was an auto parts saleswoman, and bookkeeper for D.C. Potter Company, Hutchinson.

She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Silver Leaf Chapter No. 464 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hutchinson, where she was a 50-year member. She was a volunteer at the Talking Books section at the Hutchinson Public Library for 19 years.

On Sept. 24, 1930, she married Paul L. Hilton in Hutchinson. On June 1, 1963, she married Angus Reed in Hutchinson. He died in 1981.

Survivors include: sons, Paul C. Hilton and his wife Nita, and Dale E. Hilton and his wife Wilma, all of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastors Tim Carey and Chris Deines presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
