Lenora Laurene Wiens, 94, died May 2, 2012, at Showalter Villa, Hesston. She was born March 16, 1918, in Inman, Kan., the daughter of Martin and Helen Lena (Ratzlaff) Dirksen. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1936. Lenora was a member of First Christian Church for over 50 years and was a Boy Scout leader.
On April 6, 1940, she married John J. Riffel. He died March 8, 1945. On June 18, 1950, she married Cornelius D. Wiens. He died Dec. 19, 2001.
Survivors include: seven children, Jerry Allen Wiens and wife Cindy of San Antonio, Texas, Jerry Dean Riffel and wife Joan of Kansas City, Mo., Richard "Dick" Wiens and wife Barbra of Lenexa, Kan., Ron Riffel and wife Carla of Sarasota, Fla., Karen Maddux and husband Joe of Arnold, Calif., Johnene Walters and husband Wade of Hutchinson, Marilyn Galliardt and husband Robert of Hesston; a sister, Betty Stringer of Modesto, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jim Galliardt presiding. A Celebration of Life Service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in the Conference Center at Wesley Towers. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Refuge Benevolence Fund, a non-profit ministry that serves the financial and spiritual needs of people in the Wichita area, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
